Suzy Manning (She/Her) originally trained as a social worker, and now works at HCC as a Child Life Therapist, with a diverse background in hospital and community work, secondary education, teacher training, visual arts, and silversmithing. Her unique skill set provides a holistic, evidence-based approach to care.
Suzy integrates narrative, creative, and cognitive behavioural therapies, including motivational interviewing, psycho-education and solution-focused interventions. She uses a person-centred, strengths-based approach, considering each client’s social and relational context.
Suzy works with children, adolescents and their carers, facing challenges such as anxiety,  communication and relationship difficulties, grief and loss, depression, low self-esteem, adjustment issues, school refusal, challenging behaviours, past trauma and family violence. Suzy is also an accredited Victim of Crime Counsellor, offering support to eligible individuals.
Working closely with HCC nurse practitioners and Dr Robert Parry, Suzy supports families throughout their engagement with HCC and identifies additional services they may be eligible for. Originally from Sydney, she moved to Newcastle over 15 years ago and is committed to empowering children and families. Outside work, Suzy enjoys surfing, yoga, trekking and travel.
