Online Children's Clinics is the telehealth service of Hunter Children's Clinics, bringing our care to your home. You can consult with our clinicians by secure video from anywhere in New South Wales. Because our clinicians hold national AHPRA registration, we can also see families elsewhere in Australia by telehealth; if you live outside NSW, please see our telehealth Australia-wide page. This is ideal for families in rural and remote areas, busy households, or whenever travelling to a clinic is not practical.
Telehealth appointments are held over a secure video link. All you need is a smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, and a quiet, private space. We will email you a link before your appointment, and you simply click it at your scheduled time to connect.

Parent and child on a video call during a telehealth appointment

How telehealth appointments work

Our telehealth appointments run on Coviu, a secure video platform designed for healthcare. Before your appointment we send you a link. At your scheduled time you click the link, wait briefly in the online waiting area, and your clinician joins you. The appointment then runs much like an in-person consultation, with the clinician talking through your concerns and next steps.

Confirming identity and location

For safety and to meet our obligations, we confirm your child's identity using three identifiers at the start of the appointment. We also confirm where you are located during the appointment. This means that, in the unlikely event that in-person help is needed, the clinician knows where you are. Please make sure you join from a private space where you can speak freely.

Payment

Telehealth appointments are generally pre-paid, with the exception of plan managed NDIS bookings. Our admin team will explain what applies to your appointment when you book. As with in-person appointments, a valid GP referral is required for a Medicare rebate where one applies.

When telehealth is not suitable

Telehealth suits many appointments, but not all. Some assessments and reviews need to be done in person, and your clinician will let you know when a face to face appointment is required. Telehealth is not appropriate for emergencies. If your child is unwell and needs urgent care, please contact your GP, attend an emergency department, or call 000.

How to book

To arrange a telehealth appointment, use the Book an Appointment button above, or call us on 02 4072 1877. If you live outside NSW, please see our telehealth Australia-wide page.
